Sofia, Bulgaria, 2-5 March

So, I know I haven't updated the blogg for over a month... But I've done so many things that I just couldn't find the time. But finally here are some pictures from when Marion and I hitch hiked to Sofia in Bulgaria, couch surfed at a guy named Stefen's place and celebrated Marions birthday in the basement of an art hostel.

This is in a truck, just after we crossed the border with the "feribot". The driver didn't speak English, or Romanian, but he was very nice and even bought us coffe.

We took the Free Sofia Tour, which was exactly what it sounds like. It was nice and I can recommend it since you got a good view over the city and it's history, but I expected something a bit less commercial and maybe to see some more "hidden treasures"...

There were many talanted street musicians in Sofia

One of the famous trees where people put their bracelets from Martenitsa to get luck
(There is a tradition in Bulgaria where you give your loved ones a special red and white bracelet the 1st of March to celebrate the spring. Then they should see a stork and a blossoming tree, when they see the tree they take of their bracelet and put it at one branch and they will get luck for the year).

The third of March was not only Marion's birthday but also the National Day of Bulgaria!

The St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, which is the biggest church in the city.

I celebrated Marion by taking her to luch at a nice traditional restaurant after the tour.

And of course we visited the book market.

In the night our host Stefen (middle) brought u to the Art Hostel where there was a party in the basement bar. It was a great place with cool art, crowded rooms and nice decorations. We got to know some great people (and got some contacts for our Istanbul trip) and since it was Marions birthday of course we celebrated real good.

Bartender who kind of reminded me of surfers on Lombok... He was glad to hear.

Nice guys who I also danced some polka with in the end of the night, haha.

Marion and a nice guy who's name I forgot, in one of the many cool corners of this place.

The next day we tried to get out of Sofia, but it was impossible and we gave up... Intead we ate a great buffé at a cool vegetarian and ecological restaurant. Mmmm.

It was a sunny day and the steets were full of old ladies in nice coats and children playing with their parents. We felt the spring in the air and if you closed your eyes you cold almost pretend the winter was gata.

Hitch hiking back was an edventure and we ended up in the middle of nowhere many times... But in the end we made it back of course!
